Genres and...stuff.

I write YA. It's all I've ever tried. My first book was a YA fantasy. Like swords and princesses and stuff. I loved my story, but alas, I queried it a few years ago and it didn't go anywhere. It was hard to leave it behind and write something else. But I did. And it was the best thing I ever did. I learned so much from that book. It was when I first started calling myself a writer. I look back at that first book and think "I actually sent that to agents?" **blushes** Someday I really want to re-write it, just not right now.
Anyway, since then I've written an urban fantasy that I never queried and never will. My agent picked up my paranormal fantasy. I'm writing the sequel right now. Not rushing it, since I need to sell the first book first, but I do have a few chapters and I know where I want to go with it. I'm also in the middle of another urban fantasy and I'm stuck at 20000 words... *slaps forehead*
I have another fantasy with swords and dragons that I have a few chapters of, and I just outlined a brand spanking new story idea today. It's a dystopian. I've never ever written a dystopian, but I'm so excited for it! It's so different, so outside of what I write, but it's going to be a fun new adventure! ;)

Anyway, this post does have a point. Sort of.

I thought it would be fun to know what you guys write. Do you stick with just fantasy, or do you write contemporary too? Dystopian? Or historical? Chick Lit? Thrillers? Do you write a whole bunch of genres, or stick with just one?

Changing Genres

I love writing YA. Especially YA fantasy. So, when I was sitting at my parents house the other day, watching my kids run around and laughing and talking with my family, I had a new idea sprout in my mind.
I want to write a nonfiction book.
Now, if you guys know me, which most of you don't, LOL, I do NOT write nonfiction. I don't read it either. But, this idea has sort of been burning near the back of my mind for a while now and I kept telling it to take a hike. Until now.
So, while I edit away on my YA fantasy, I'm starting a Nonfiction book. It's about families, and I'm really excited to start. I've never been an outliner either, and I've been outlining like crazy! We'll see where it goes. It will be geared towards the LDS market, while my YA books are mostly for the National. I'm excited to start writing and I've already had some great experiences, even with outlining! :)
What about you guys? Do you stick to one genre? Or do you try several?
