Funny Story

I had to share this story that happened to me tonight. My uncle is a mechanic, so we have him work on our cars when they have problems.
My hubby has been out of town all week, (He comes home today! Yay!!) so we dropped our van off to my uncle on Monday and told him to take his time working on it.
So, tonight I'm sitting here and my mom calls.

Mom: "Hi, honey! I was just calling to tell you about the surprise in your driveway."
Me: Goes to window and looks outside. I can see my car that I've been driving around all week, but no surprises. "What is it?"
Mom: Laughs. "Um, isn't your van there?"
Me: Looks out window again. "Uh ... no?"
Mom: Silence."What?"
Me: "My van is not in my driveway."
Mom: "But they just dropped it off! They said you weren't home."
Me: "I've been here all night. And there is no van out there. I'm looking out the window right now."
Mom: "Holy crap. I think they parked it at the wrong house! I'll call them and call you back!"

So, meanwhile I go outside and see if I can see it. I look a few houses down and cringe. It's sitting in some random neighbors driveway. *dies*
I run inside, grab my keys, make sure my kids are still asleep, and run outside in my pajamas and glasses. Some dude watering his lawn kept looking at me funny. That was awesome.
Anyway, I reached my van, breathed a HUGE sigh of relief that the neighbors I didn't know and had never met, weren't home. I started backing the van out, when a car stopped next to the driveway.
Now, I was sort of freaking out, since I really didn't want to explain to the neighbors why I'd parked my van under their car port. I continued to back out, and heard laughing.
It was my aunt and uncle. I was so relieved it was them! Seriously. I would have died if it would have been the owners of the house!
Aunt: "I'm so sorry, Chantele! I swear we thought it was your house. Though I did think it was weird that your door wasn't red anymore. I wondered when you'd painted it beige."
Me: "Whatever, you did it on purpose." Laughing.
Uncle: "Your mom said you were home, but I didn't see your car in the driveway so I just left the van there and put the key under your mat. I honestly thought that was your house. They all look the same on this street!"
"Me: Laughing. "You were pretty close I guess."

All in all, it was a pretty good laugh. It could have turned out so much worse if the neighbors would have been home, or came home when my van was parked in their parking spot.

Random hilariousness like this is the greatest. I could definitely put this in a book. :P

Have a great weekend everyone! :D

Love it, love it, love it! Thanks for telling us this funny story! Ah, it has the makings of one of those great action movies—you know the kind, the ones with the awesome action sequences along with fantastic humorous moments.
I mean there you were in your pj's in stealth mode experiencing a rush of adrenaline that your neighbors might catch you in the act! And your Mom was a great character too—I can just hear her voice and see her expression when it hit her that your van wasn't in YOUR driveway!
Thanks for the laugh!

lol. I love it that your Aunty got the wrong house, and just thought you'd painted it. My great aunty once welcomed me into the family instead of my brothers wife-to-be ... I was so confused. I was like 'but, but, aunty Sally, I am in the family!' lol.

Lol. I can't believe they got confused about where you live. Your poor mum with her surprise ruined. Hehe.

Also, I tagged you. :)

So hilarious! Personally, I would have LOVED if the neighbors had been invloved some way.(not for you, but the story) Maybe work that in the next time you tell this story.;) I heart your family!

Ha ha ha! I love that your own relatives got your house confused. :)

Although, I'm not going to lie, I can totally see myself doing that...

Chantele, that is hilarious! But maybe it's time to introduce yourself to your neighbors? Someone new moved into my neighborhood and a couple weeks after they showed up on MY doorstep to introduce themselves with a plate of brownies. I felt like such a dork.

Yep, me again.
I'm popping around to remind the people who signed up for my blogfest, because without reminders, I would miss most of my life's appointments...

Before I laughed I was mostly jealous that you had someone related to you who could fix your car.

I was gone last week and am just catching up on posts. I'm so glad I didn't miss this one because it's a good one! So darn funny. The whole time I was reading it, I kept thinking this is good stuff for one of your stories!

That's hilarious! I would have been running in my PJs and glasses too! It's good to get the heart pounding occasionally. It would have been even better if the neighbors had come out. Embarrassment keeps us humble. ;)
