The Day of Love!

When I was in high school, I always dreamed of getting flowers sent to class on Valentine's Day. Alas, it never happened. Actually, I did get two flowers my senior year from two of my closest guy friends, so I guess that counts.

When I met my hubby, we dated for less than a month before we got engaged. Yes, I know. It was super fast. I was so excited to finally have a Valentine for the rest of my life! Little did I know, the one holiday my cute hubby hated the most was VALENTINES DAY! Are you kidding me? I was shocked! And a little disappointed I didn't marry a hopeless romantic like myself. I still got a good one though. He's so funny. Every year he says Valentines Day is a stupid holiday, because he loves me every day. Not just one day a year. But even though he hates it, he still does something extra sweet for me each year. I'm not sure what he'll do today, but I'm sure it will be cute. :)

I love, LOVE. Especially in books. I love reading first kisses and tension between two characters who know they love each other but are too afraid to say it. As for my own writing, sometimes I have a hard time writing kissing scenes because I can't capture the perfect first kiss or the right emotion. It sounds cheesy to me when I go over my scenes, so I end up writing them like ten times I swear.

Do you have a hard time with romantic scenes in your own writing? Do you have a favorite steamy moment in a book? I LOVED Shatter Me. If you've read it, you know exactly which scene I'm talking about. Maybe ... Ha ha. ;)

Sorry, I'm with your husband on this one. It's funny because I consider myself one of the most hopeless of all romantics, but I don't like Valentine's Day. Romance is best when it's spontaneous and passionate and done because it just feels right, and I feel like when Valentine's Day forces people to be romantic, it takes some of the magic out of it.

That said, I agree with you about loving love, especially in books. A good buildup followed by the realization of that tension is one of the most powerful things I can read. One of my favorites is in Little Women, when Jo and Fritz kiss for the first time (not exactly a steamy moment per se). Also, like, four scenes in No Humans Involved, one of the books in Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series.

Enjoy your Valentine's Day!!!

I'm not really a romance book reader. Not sure why-- they just don't interest me. I like a great story and if there happens to be a love story, awesome. However, in some weird space of hypocrisy, I do love a good, mushy, chick-flick romance movie. Happy Valentines! :)

Do I!!!??? YES. Kisses are so hard! (well the kind you write, I like to think I got the real life lip lock perfected)
My husband isn't a super romantic either...but he's genuine.

I loved Shatter Me...and there were a few steamy scenes, but I think I know which one you're talking about. :)

I tend to have no problem writing kissing scenes. In fact, I usually jump ahead when drafting just to write the next one, then in revising I have to cut back some. I really need to just write a romance novel some day. :)

I have not read Shatter Me, but I've heard SO MANY good things about it! I need to get it!

Even though I have a Valentine, I'm mostly excited about the candy going on sale tomorrow :)

I think writing kissing scenes are almost as fun as the real thing :) Almost.

I always have trouble with kissing scenes! Not married and I don't have a lot of practice kissing or writing kissing scenes.

Happy Valentine's day!

Aw, what a sweetie for a husband, even if he isn't romantic. :)

I have the same problem with writing romantic scenes. I don't want it to be cheesy, so I rewrite them OVER and OVER.

I think the key is building tension going into those scenes, then...poof! Like a match. :)
